Marsilea hirsuta is a versatile foreground plant with clover-like leaves that can adapt its appearance depending on conditions. Under stronger light it grows low and compact, forming a neat, natural carpet, while lower light can encourage taller, more upright growth.

Plant in small portions across the substrate and allow time for it to settle. It spreads slowly by runners and is generally undemanding compared to many carpeting plants. Moderate lighting is usually sufficient, though brighter light and added CO₂ will help keep growth lower and more even. Its adaptability makes it a good choice for both simple planted tanks and more detailed layouts.
